Jarrod Davidson: Murderous family secret

Sheriff's Lieutenant Butch Arnoldi was on patrol and had driven by Jarrod's home just minutes before the shooting. He turned around, returned to the area and saw the young man lying on an ambulance gurney. Blood was everywhere.

The crime scene

"I've been in this business 35 years, and it was the most blood I've seen from one person," Arnoldi said. "The shot had to have hit some major arteries. I think he was technically alive on gurney, but he was dead the minute he hit the ground." Jarrod drew his last breath on the way to the hospital.

Arnoldi inspected the scene and noticed a small potted plant that was on its side in a planter area near where Jarrod had been shot. It looked out of place. "I said, 'that's evidencedon't let anyone touch that or move it; there's nothing like this around here. Make sure no one disturbs it,'" Arnoldi recalled.

The lieutenant followed the trail of the bullet. The killer had been 20 feet away. The shot had gone through Jarrod's body, hit the aluminum window frame behind him, gone through the living room window and his living room wall and into the apartment next door. It had then struck a high school diploma hanging on the neighbor's wall, gone through another bedroom wall into a fiberglass shower stall. Arnoldi found it in the drain.

It was lucky for Jarrod's elderly neighbor that she hadn't been standing near her dresser or taking a shower at the time of the shooting.
