Russell Obremski: A Killer's Luck

Once in jail, though, Obremski refused to waive extradition to be sent back to Oregon where he was well known in the penal system, and where the bodies of his victims awaited justice. Santa Cruz convened a grand jury, which heard 20 witnesses testify. Extradition papers were signed without delay by Gov. Ronald Reagan, and Obremski was shipped to the Jackson County Jail. He was arraigned on March 11 in the Medford court of Judge L.L. Sawyer.
He was assigned public defenders Patrick Ford and Carl M. Brophy, who entered pleas of not guilty by reason of insanity. Obremski was held without bail.
In an interview with 48 Hours, Obremski said that at that point he wanted to die. He deserved the death penalty. He deserved to die.
