The Hollywood Bling Ring

Prugo's list of names continued to six: 18-year olds Courtney Ames, and Alexis Neiers, Diana Tamayo, 19 and Roy Lopez, 27, were all charged with felony residential burglary. Everyone charged, including Prugo, have entered not guilty pleas.

As each new arrest was revealed, the media scrambled to name the motley crew. The New York Times wrote: "The gang's nickname is still up for grabs.... 'The Burglar Bunch,' trumpeted TMZ. 'The Bling Ring,' rhymed the Los Angeles Times. The 'Hollywood Hills Burglars,' said the Los Angeles police."

The posse of alleged burglars, armed with information gleaned from the Internet and gossip magazines instead of a pistol (though the police later found one of those, too), robbed loot worth millions from a gallery of A-list celebrities; the media was salivating.

For a minute, the would-be posse had it all: the bling and a bit of the notoriety. Neiers even cinched a starring role in a reality show; in show business they say there is no bad press.
