Truly Weird, Part 3

Son of Sam
Captain Borrelli, head of the New York City task force to find the psycho who was killing pretty young women, got a letter claiming to be from the "monster" who lived to hunt pretty women. "'Go out and kill,' commands father Sam," it read. Two days later, Sam Carr, a retired city worker, got a letter in the same handwriting complaining about his dog barking. Ten days later the dog was shot. Had police connected these two events, at least one young woman would have been saved.

Once he was captured, David Berkowitz convinced more than one psychiatrist that he was a paranoid schizophrenic, obsessed with the notion that his murders were ordered by a demon dog. However, veteran FBI expert Robert Ressler uncovered the real motivations for the Son of Sam murders.

Graham Young
Fourteen-year-old with a fascination for Hitler and toxic chemicals develops into an obsessive and sophisticated killer, becoming one of the youngest serial killers in a maximum security hospital. However, once he became bored with carving swastikas, he turned to poisoning the other inmates and hospital staff members.

The Zodiac
"This is the Zodiac speaking," wrote California's most famous serial killer. Over a period of many years, the Zodiac sent postcards and letters to the police, many written with elaborate codes. Almost certainly the very famous unsolved murder case was the inspiration to BTK's many letters to authorities and the media, taunting them and threatening new killings. The Zodiac also inspired the movie "Dirty Harry," and the kidnapping of a school bus full of children. There are a number of convincing suspects, but the case remains officially unsolved for decades.

The Sunset Strip Murders
Bizarre California couple keeps their relationship going by sharing their experiences killing and decapitating young women. New interviews by veteran journalist suggests that Carol Bundy, the homely female in this partnership, may have had greater role than previously realized.
