Osama bin Laden: High Priest of Terror

During his speech Obama made clear that the killing of Osama bin Laden was not an attack on the Muslim community or Islam. "I've made clear, just as President Bush did shortly after 9-11, that our war is not against Islam. Bin Laden was not a Muslim leader. He was a mass-murderer of Muslims. Indeed, al Qaeda slaughtered scores of Muslims in many countries including our own. So his demise should be welcomed by all who believe in peace and human dignity."

Even though bin Laden was branded a disgrace to Muslims, the U.S. elected to prepare his remains in accordance with Muslim tradition. The body was washed and wrapped in a white sheet while religious prayers, translated by an Arabic speaker, were spoken. But because no country would take the body of the most wanted terrorist in the world, and because Obama wanted to avoid making a shrine where hero-worshippers could convene, the most hated man in the world was buried at sea, for the fishes to eat.
