A Promising Young Student
Robert Champion, 26, was music major at Florida A&M University (F.A.M.U.). The young clarinet player (pictured), who hailed from Decatur, Ga., was a graduate of Southwest DeKalb High School, and had recently been named drum major with F.A.M.U.'s famed marching band, the Marching 100. The band's director, Julian White, told the Orlando Sentinel that Champion had a bright future: "He was a very fine drum major who was of excellent character and very trustworthy. I had not told him yet, but he was slated to be the head drum major next year."
